Air Source Heat Pumps
Professional air source heat pump installation delivering efficient, low-carbon heating and reliable year-round performance solutions.
Moving to an air source heat pump is a whole-home heating decision involving heat loss, radiators, hot water and outdoor space. Terraces, semis and extended coastal homes can have limited external space and varied internal heating systems.
Our team brings the outdoor unit, internal plant, emitters and controls into one coordinated design. Learn more about the wider service on the air source heat pump installation page.

Loft conversions, exposed elevations and mixed-age extensions can change the heat demand from room to room. A room-by-room calculation establishes the output needed in colder design conditions. It provides the basis for appliance size, emitter output and operating temperature without relying on the previous boiler rating.
Radiator and pipework checks are particularly important where the existing boiler has relied on high flow temperatures. Each room is checked for required output at the proposed water temperature. This shows which emitters can remain, which may need more surface area and whether pipework or balancing work belongs in the scope.
Compact gardens, passages and neighbouring windows make acoustic assessment, airflow and service clearance central to siting. Manufacturer sound data, operating conditions, distance, reflections and nearby windows all influence the assessment. Position and model should be checked against the applicable planning and MCS requirements rather than a generic decibel claim.
Cylinder location and access should be considered early where internal storage is limited. An air-to-water heat pump normally works with stored hot water, so cylinder capacity, recovery, hygiene cycles and available space matter. Heating capacity should not be enlarged simply to compensate for an unclear hot-water brief.
Weather exposure, condensate drainage and external pipe protection should be included in the installation details. The work can include outdoor and indoor equipment, cylinder changes, emitters, electrical upgrades, pipework, removal, testing and commissioning. A clear sequence helps the household understand disruption and what is included.

Potentially. Loft conversions, exposed elevations and mixed-age extensions can change the heat demand from room to room. Suitability also depends on emitters, hot-water needs, electrical supply and a workable outdoor position, so a survey and room-by-room design are required.
Sometimes. Each radiator should be checked for the room heat loss at the proposed flow temperature. Some may be retained, while others may need more surface area or a different design. Pipework and system balancing also matter.
They can work well together because underfloor heating may deliver the required room output at lower water temperatures. The floor build-up, pipe spacing, controls and room heat loss still need to be checked.
Not automatically in every home. The result depends on previous fuel and system efficiency, heat demand, electricity tariff, flow temperature, controls and household use. A proposal should estimate performance from the property rather than promise a universal saving.
Usually not exactly. Heat pumps often favour steadier, lower-temperature operation. Weather compensation and well-set schedules can support comfort and efficiency. The installer should demonstrate the controls and explain normal operation at handover.
Eligible property owners may receive Boiler Upgrade Scheme support. The scheme is installer-led and an MCS-certified installer applies on the owner’s behalf. Eligibility and the grant available should be confirmed for the property and technology at the time of application.
