Air Source Heat Pumps
Professional air source heat pump installation delivering efficient, low-carbon heating and reliable year-round performance solutions.
Low-temperature heating can work across many property types when room demand and the existing system are properly understood. Newer estates, family homes and surrounding villages provide a mix of modern and altered heating systems.
The survey reviews room demand, radiators, pipework, cylinder space, electrics and the outdoor position. See the complete approach on our main air source heat pump page.

Extensions, garages converted to rooms and roof spaces can change heat demand from the original design. A room-by-room calculation establishes the output needed in colder design conditions. It provides the basis for appliance size, emitter output and operating temperature without relying on the previous boiler rating.
The radiator review identifies where retained emitters meet output and where changes improve lower-temperature performance. Each room is checked for required output at the proposed water temperature. This shows which emitters can remain, which may need more surface area and whether pipework or balancing work belongs in the scope.
Outdoor-unit position should provide airflow, drainage and access without compromising frequently used outside space. The design considers airflow, recirculation, condensate drainage, service clearance, pipe length and visual impact together. The quietest-looking corner is not always the best technical position.
Hot-water demand, controls and future solar PV can be considered without oversizing the heating appliance. An air-to-water heat pump normally works with stored hot water, so cylinder capacity, recovery, hygiene cycles and available space matter. Heating capacity should not be enlarged simply to compensate for an unclear hot-water brief.
The quotation should make cylinder, emitter, electrical and commissioning allowances transparent. Total cost depends on the heat pump, cylinder, emitters, controls, electrical work, pipework, access and removal requirements. A useful quotation separates included work, grant assumptions and optional improvements.

Potentially. Extensions, garages converted to rooms and roof spaces can change heat demand from the original design. Suitability also depends on emitters, hot-water needs, electrical supply and a workable outdoor position, so a survey and room-by-room design are required.
Not automatically in every home. The result depends on previous fuel and system efficiency, heat demand, electricity tariff, flow temperature, controls and household use. A proposal should estimate performance from the property rather than promise a universal saving.
Sometimes. Each radiator should be checked for the room heat loss at the proposed flow temperature. Some may be retained, while others may need more surface area or a different design. Pipework and system balancing also matter.
An air-to-water heat pump can serve space heating and a suitable hot-water cylinder. Cylinder capacity, recovery, hygiene cycles and peak household demand need to be designed alongside the heating system.
Some domestic installations in England can be permitted development when the applicable limits and conditions are met. Listed buildings, flats, conservation considerations and local restrictions can require a different approach, so the proposed position should be checked.
Usually not exactly. Heat pumps often favour steadier, lower-temperature operation. Weather compensation and well-set schedules can support comfort and efficiency. The installer should demonstrate the controls and explain normal operation at handover.
