What is an LPG boiler?

An LPG boiler is a boiler that utilises Liquid Petroleum Gas as its fuel source, this is stored in an external tank ready to supply the boiler.

Liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG) is a combination of propane and butane stored under moderate pressure. It is widely available in the UK and is recognised as low carbon and low polluting fuel.

Due to being 250 times denser as a liquid than as a gas, a large quantity of LPG can be stored in a small space.

This makes LPG boiler an ideal choice for installing in a wide variety of property sizes. For convenience, the LPG tank can also be stored underground. LPG tanks usually come in capacities of 1000 to 2000 litres.

There is a wide choice of LPG boiler options available on the UK market. These include dedicated LPG boilers, standard natural gas boilers that can be adapted using an LPG conversion kit.

Like gas and oil boilers, these boilers are available as combi boilers, conventional boilers and system boilers.
LPG boilers are often used in conjunction with a renewable energy source such as solar.

LPG boilers have some of the lowest CO2 emissions available to off-grid properties – typically 20% less than the CO2 emissions of an oil boiler. LPG boilers are cheaper to install than oil boilers but can be more expensive to run.
